HOP is committed to improving the quality of services and furthering the quality of care in the region through continuous collaborations with community partners to include research and education.
The HIV Outpatient Program (HOP) has been recognized nationally for its innovative approach to patient services and many of its dedicated staff continue to teach other providers the art and science of HIV and AIDS care. The multidisciplinary clinic provides services utilizing physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, health educators, nutritionists, pharmacists, pharmacy techs, phlebotomists, case managers, administrative staff and research staff. HOP's history began in 1987 as an outgrowth of the Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans/Charity Infectious Disease Clinic, continued through its transformation into the Ted Wisniewski Center of Excellence for the Treatment of Immunodeficiency Diseases, and today is rebuilding after the many changes wrought by Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent flooding caused by levee failures.
